This Holiday Season Gift Experiences, Not Things

Why travel experiences are the new "it thing" when it comes to holiday gifting

This holiday season, make sure you gift experiences and not things.

Gifting experiences provide lasting memories, allow for unique bonding experiences, and can even be a source of personal growth. When we think about the things that we cherish the most, it's often the experiences we've had and the memories we've made, rather than the material possessions we own. This is because experiences create emotional connections that last a lifetime, while material possessions can often lose their value over time.

For example, think about a special trip you took with your loved ones. The memories of the sights you saw, the food you ate, and the adventures you had will likely stay with you forever, providing a sense of joy and nostalgia whenever you think back on them. In contrast, a physical gift you received during that trip may have already been forgotten or discarded.

Travel experience with family

Travel experiences often involve trying new things and stepping out of one's comfort zone, which can create a deeper sense of fulfillment and personal growth. Travel experiences are associated with identity, connection, and social behavior.  Think about ziplining through the rainforest, seeing a tapir or a jaguar up close for the first time, paddle boarding on the barrier reef while stingrays swim underwater, rappelling down a waterfall, or kayaking to a private island and sleeping on shore with no one else around. These are the great moments we remember when we travel, these are the type of childhood memories that we share for a lifetime.

When thinking of the memories our travel experiences bring us all, people seem happier with those memories than with possessions. Gifting material possessions may provide temporary pleasure but does not offer the same opportunities for long-term joy and self-improvement.

According to a study by the American Psychological Association, experiences bring more happiness and satisfaction than material possessions. In the study, participants were asked to recall a recent purchase, and those who had spent money on an experience reported greater overall satisfaction.

Furthermore, travel allows for unique bonding experiences. In an article by Forbes, it was reported that traveling with others can bring people closer together and strengthen their relationships. This is because travel often involves trying new things and stepping out of one's comfort zone, which can lead to deeper connections.

Lastly, travel can also be a source of personal growth. In an article by Psychology Today, it was stated that travel can broaden one's perspective and lead to increased self-awareness. This is because traveling to new places often involves encountering different cultures, which can challenge one's beliefs and assumptions.

In conclusion, gifting travel experiences is a  great choice this holiday season because it provides lasting memories, allows for unique bonding experiences, and can be a source of personal growth. It's a gift that keeps on giving, long after the holiday season has ended.
