First Maya Pok-Ta-Pok Ball Court in Belize

The Belize Tourism Board Inaugurates the First Maya "Pok-ta-pok"  Ballcourt in Belize 

The Ts’unu’un Pok-ta-Pok Ball Court was created as part of the Belize Tourism Board’s (BTB) efforts to safeguard Maya heritage and promote tourism in northern Belize.  The ball court is located at Jardín Pachamama on the Yo Creek - San Lazaro Road in the Orange Walk District.

The Belikin La Ruta Maya Belize River Challenge is a four-day canoe race that takes place every year on the Belize Old River. Conceptualized by Richard Harrison of Big-H Enterprises to promote the Vida brand purified water, the race has evolved into one of the longest canoe races in Central America.

A message from the Belize Zoo & Tropical Education Center

After over two long and challenging pandemic years, 2022 saw the return of some normalcy in all walks of life here at the Belize Zoo and Tropical Education Center. It was such a delight to hear the chatter and excitement of Belizean school-children once again in the Zoo. We continued to welcome back international and local visitors alike both at the Zoo and over at the Tropical Education Center.

The Belize Zoo, the "best little zoo in the world" reopen its doors this month!
 

We are extremely happy to announce that after 6 arduous weeks of hard work, The Belize Zoo & Tropical Education Center is open again! It's official, the doors have reopened to the public on December 17th!

The Belize Zoo & Tropical Education Center has come a long way in its recovery and repair efforts, although there is still a long way to go the Zoo grounds and habitats will be safe and enjoyable for the resident animals, staff, and visitors.

Last Wednesday, November 2, Hurricane Lisa reached Belize, and while all our Island Expeditions locations were spared by the strong winds and heavy rains, the Belize Zoo & Tropical Education Center was severely impacted as they were right on the path of the storm.
