Guidelines for Tipping on Maya Reef Explorer

Tipping for great service and going the extra mile is traditional in the adventure travel industry.

We feel a tipping budget from $100 to $200 from each traveler is a good range to consider or a tipping budget totaling between $5 to $10 per guide each day from each traveler.

On your Maya Reef Explorer trip you will typically have two sets of guides – one for your first day and a half inland portion and another guide team for the reef portion of the trip.  You can tip individuals for outstanding service within your guiding team or provide a general tip for the entire guiding team - whichever you feel most comfortable with.

For the inland guiding team we suggest giving them any monies before you board the charter boat in Belize City as you will not see these people at the end of the trip.  Suggested guidelines are $1-$2US per night left in the room for the hotel room staff, $1-2US per person per day in the dining room tip box for the kitchen staff, $5 for the bird tour guide, $5-$10 for the van driver depending upon the amount of luggage and support required.
Upon departing the inland portion of your trip you may wish to leave a tip for the kitchen and lodge staff.  You may leave any tips of this nature at the front desk with your hostess when you depart the lodge.

For those who want to provide a general tip for the island guiding team, a tip box will become available on the last day of your trip.  This tip will be shared proportionately amongst the guiding staff, the cooks, the support camp staff, and the operations staff.
