5 Things to Do In Belize This Fall

Tobacco Caye Paradise Belize

Belize is well known as a winter vacation destination. It’s also one of the best Central American countries to visit year-round including the fall. During the fall, you can expect rain showers, especially in the early morning and at night, but most days are sunny with warm temperatures. Daytime highs average of around 84°F (29°C) and lows of 75°F (24°C). This fall, forget about the chilly air and enjoy affordable prices on the ultimate Belize autumn getaway.

Here are 5 of our favourite things to do in Belize this Fall:

1. Experience Belize’s Fall Events and Festivals

Belize Independence Day - September 21

Belize's Independence Day is celebrated on September 21, commemorating the day in 1981 when the nation was granted independent status by Great Britain.  You will find celebrations all over the country including parades, dancing, music and food stalls serving up delicious local foods.

Garifuna Settlement Day - November 19

This celebration marks the arrival of the Garifuna people to the shores of Belize from 1832. The week around Garifuna Settlement Day is filled with parades, live music, drumming and dancing, especially in the Garifuna town of Dangriga.

2. Discover the Rainforests of Belize this Fall

Fall is the perfect time of year to head inland and discover the lush rainforests of Belize. The Mayflower Bocawina National Park is located a 17-mile drive from Dangriga and 12 miles from the Garifuna village of Hopkins. Once there, we suggest the zip line tour! Soar over the pristine rainforest canopy on the longest zip Line in Belize at approximately 2.5 miles long. This is a great way to get up close and personal with the birds and wildlife of the rainforest on the 12 platforms through the Mayflower Bocawina National Park.  For the ultimate experience - try zip lining at night when the jungle becomes alive. And it’s even more spectacular during a full moon.

3. Travel inland to explore the Che Chem Ha Pottery Caves and the Mayan Ruins of Xunantunich

This is the perfect Belize trip itinerary for an autumn escape to Belize. Stay two nights at Cahal Pech Village Resort - a picturesque lodge with a grand vista overlooking the town of San Ignacio and rolling hills of Western Belize. Hike into the jungle to the entrance of Che Chem Ha cave, then strap on helmets and headlamps for a subterranean adventure with an authentic Mayan guide. Visit the Mayan Ruins of Xunantunich and climb to the top of 'El Castillo' - still the second tallest building in Belize.

5. Head out to the Belize Barrier Reef for Thanksgiving

Why not celebrate Thanksgiving with family and friends on a remote coral atoll within the Belize Barrier Reef? Paddle lodge to lodge by kayak or SUP in the Southwater Caye Marine Reserve and spend nights at family-run island cabanas enjoying fresh seafood and local cuisine and a comfortable bed and shower. The 7-Day Paradise Islands Trip runs weekly from November 17th onwards.
