Add a Face-to-Face Encounter with a Jaguar to Your Travel Bucket List

Island Expeditions has reinvented its popular Glover's Reef and River of Caves trip to include an up-close  encounter with a jaguar - perfect for that ever-evolving travel bucket list.  Trip participants now get an insider's visit to the Belize Zoo's Problem Jaguar Rehabilitation Program  plus an inner tube and caving adventure in the Crystal Caves of Belize - both new for the trip season which starts November 19th, 2012. 
At the Crystal Caves, one of the Belize's largest cave structures, trip participants descend with inner tubes, helmets, and headlamps into the Mayan underworld to the Mayan realm of Xibalba.  As participants float and hike through this otherworldly cavern of  living walls, crystal stalactites, stalagmites, and rim stone dams, they see how the ancient Maya created a rich world of mythology in the underground.

The  Problem Jaguar Rehabilitation Program is the first-ever of its kind, and provides a fascinating insight into the world of large cats and Wildlife Management.   A 'Problem Jaguar' is defined as a jaguar who has been repeatedly preying upon livestock or domestic animals.  The Belize Zoo's rehabilitation program allows a more positive option to these jaguars.  Special arrangements have been made for guests to get a close look at the Problem Jaguar Program and the wildlife of the zoo with an experienced zookeeper.

The Glover's Reef  itinerary includes 2 nights at the Tropical Education Center, adjacent to the Belize Zoo.  Guests float and hike through geological caves, visit the zoo, then head out to the turquoise waters and white coral sands of Glover's Reef Atoll.  Participants  stay in comfortable, beachfront tent cabanas at Island Expedition's unique Glover's Basecamp. Meals are included, and activities range from kayaking, kayak sailing, snorkelling, diving and fishing, to some serious R&R hammock-time.
