The Belize Zoo, the "best little zoo in the world" reopen its doors this month!
We are extremely happy to announce that after 6 arduous weeks of hard work, The Belize Zoo & Tropical Education Center is open again! It's official, the doors have reopened to the public on December 17th!
The Belize Zoo & Tropical Education Center has come a long way in its recovery and repair efforts, although there is still a long way to go the Zoo grounds and habitats will be safe and enjoyable for the resident animals, staff, and visitors.
We are really grateful for the overwhelming support for the rebuilding campaign, allowing the Zoo to rebound, and continue to evolve and grow. All your favorite creatures and critters will be waiting to greet you, including Sylvia and Martin the jaguars, in their upgraded homes!

We are so glad to finally have Sylvia the jaguar back out in her habitat! The Belize Zoo thanks all the supporters of the Hearts for Habitat matching fund that ran last month for speeding up this process. Thanks as well to BATSUB for giving her a nice new bridge over her pond, using a fallen ficus tree. It’s great to find a few silver linings as we recover from Hurricane Lisa’s destructive visit to the Zoo.
Lindo is also back in his habitat. Lisa made some unsolicited home improvements for him, leaving him with plenty of scratching logs now. 😆
