Belize Marine Basecamp - Half moon Caye, Lighthouse Reef
Situated on spectacular Half Moon Caye National Monument, we are extremely lucky to be the only operator to overnight on Belize's first national park. Under a canopy of coconut trees, and next to a fantastic littoral forest (unique in the cayes of Belize), and red-footed boobie colony, our camp looks south over the endless Caribbean sea. Our comfortable Basecamp consists of a central pavillion, which acts as the social hub of camp. Here we eat our meals, learn for our island guides with morning talks on the local ecology, and discuss the day's plan. There is also a fully stocked resource library, and an endless supply of drinking water and juices that can be accessed through the day. The camp is powered by small generator in the evening, and there are freshwater showers, modern compost toilets and propane powered refrigeration giving us all the comforts of a well-appointed field camp. Guests sleep in comfortable wall-tent cabanas with wooden floors, a wooden night stand with a kerosene lamp, and outfitted with either single or double beds.
Delicious meals featuring Creole and international cuisine are prepared and served buffet style in our open air dining area by our much beloved cooks.
BELIZE MARINE BASECAMP - SOUTHWEST CAYE, GLOVER'S REEF
On the water's edge, with dramatic views over the main reef wall and the open Caribbean Sea, is our dining area, with large raised verandah, lounge and resource library. The enclosed outdoor stoop is where your island guides give their fun and informative talks on the surrounding ecology each morning.
The camp is powered by solar generated electricity with freshwater showers, modern compost toilets and solar powered refrigeration.
EXPEDITION CAMPING - ON THE RIVER
In the jungle, our riverside camps are chosen for their spectacular setting, access to trails and access to further watersheds. Often from these field camps we will travel up stream on a new branch of the river, hike into unexcavated Mayan Ruins, or travel with our Mayan guides for wildlife viewing.
Our expedition camps are designed to be carried with us on the river and pack down to fit in our boats. Each group travels with a fully outfitted field kitchen, and each site is pre-determined to minimize the impact on the forest floor. Also, comfortable, private bush toilets are setup by the Mayan guides at each camp. Although simpler fare is generally served on the river, the guides fully cater each meal, to rave reviews (Mayan Fire Roasted Chicken is a guest favourite).
